6th-Jul-2009 08:48 pm - Monkey Island Special Edition
Le sigh. I would happily pay a tenner so I could buy any philistine (i.e. non-monkey-island-playing) friends of mine a copy of the original Secret of Monkey Island, updated to run on current computers. Unfortunately, that option will not be available. Instead you'll be able to buy a fuck-ugly 'remake' for the price of a new game. Here, see what I mean?

Box art under cut )

What conclusion can I draw from this other than "these people hate Monkey Island"? Well, possibly "these people are idiots" or "these people don't know where to hire a decent art director".

Everything I've heard from them before has been OK to good, but this Tonight Show performance just sounds like Matchbox 20 or any other generic bland American MOR, but in 7/8.

Maybe with a dash of Creed or post-shark-jump Live thrown in there.

Ick.

In which I made an LJ post that got a whole six comments.

I'm not sure what Freud would make of it.

MA for Worst Band in the World: Chickenfoot

They have a good drummer, but the three other members are absolute Johnny No-Markses with inexplicably successful careers of shit, and apparently none of them have any clue of how to write a song. All in all, they make Nickelback sound good by comparison. Being suddenly assaulted by their twattery on the Conan O'Brien show is like taking a nice walk by the seaside and suddenly having a seagull shit down your earhole.

Well, I'm back into it and kicking ass as Pyro. If you want a piece, I'm MikoSquiz on Steam.

Maybe we should just wipe the human race out and start again with mold, after all.

26th-May-2009 02:35 pm - Best Songs Evar
As selected by #turri by a nominate-second-veto system

Leonard Cohen - Take This Waltz
Annie Lennox - Love Song for a Vampire
Infected Mushroom - Cities of the Future
Guns'N'Roses - November Rain
Regina Spektor - Apres Moi
Op:l Bastards - Sagittarius III
Nature & Organisation - To You
Moonsorrow - Pimeä
Joyless - Hidden Track
Metallica - Master of Puppets
The Cure - Lovesong
Sopor Aeternus - The Dreadful Mirror
Gorillaz - Tomorrow Comes Today
Opeth - Blackwater Park
Enya - May It Be
Arvo Pärt - Fratres

Vetoed tracks included Stairway to Heaven (as "overplayed and overrated") and various fucking awful metal covers of 80s hits, the latter courtesy of a person who shall remain nameless. Never Gonna Give You Up was suggested, vetoed, and punished by summary execution. A lot of 60s classics were considered, but in the end nobody liked any of them best out of their selections.

Look out for the compilation CD in shops 29.02.2010

Playing the early Final Fantasies on the DS, out of desperation. It's interesting to see how, as you go backwards through the series, bad design decisions unravel and the filthy encrustation of melodrama dissolves, leaving a core of fairly decent lightweight pseudo-RPG action. At this rate I'm expecting FFI to be some kind of embodiment of fluffy turn-based fun, and wishing even more than before that they'd just stop making new entries in the series more than a decade after it jumped the shark.

When was the last time you cooked for yourself? What did you make?

Last night. Chicken chunks, slices of mushroom and bamboo shoot, in an apple juice and veg stock cube based sweet-and-sourish sort of sauce. I should've cooked the mushrooms (old and tough) and bamboo shoots (just tough) longer but otherwise it was pretty OK. Oh, and basmati rice, which is inappropriate but better for you.
